JD CAMP Event Center began with Janet and Dennis Hyatt (that’s where JD comes from!). Dennis’ dream was to create a camp for underprivileged boys. He bought 288 acres of flood plain land and moved dirt for over 25 years while working full time. He managed to build a levy that encompassed 10 acres of that land before he was diagnosed with cancer. His dying wish was to see this dream turn into a reality.

And so, we made it happen.
My father always said, “Leave the world a better place than you found it.” And that’s exactly what we’ve set out to do. After he had passed, we worked hard on bringing his dream to life. It wasn’t easy. There were a ton of obstacles and hardships along the way, but God opened the doors. It all worked out.
On July 22, 2021, we had our official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. We celebrated all the wonderful people who have played an important role in making this come true.
As we continue to build the center with new amenities and features, we hold a unique space for people to come together to celebrate special occasions, while supporting our purpose and mission.

The ultimate dream is offering a truly positive camping experience for children because it’s an experience all kids should have. We’re working on expanding and continuing to build the facility, as well as transition to become a non-profit.
The goal is to establish six pavilions where groups of all ages can stay the night and learn to set up their campsite and experience being outdoors. We’d have opportunities for them to learn how to catch fish, clean them, and cook them. They’ll enjoy playing games (ping pong, board games, dominoes, etc.) and we’d build a sports court so they can play basketball and pickleball. Every wedding and event held here helps us get one step closer to fulfilling our purpose.
